Angela Kang has made a big name for herself in the world of television which of course includes her time on The walking dead. Her time at AMC Studios is far from over, as she’s on her way back to the producer role and is working on a brand new series based on Rebecca Roanhorse’s Hugo Award-nominated fantasy novel, Black Sun. This news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The book is the first installment of the author’s Between earth and sky series. The basis of the book is “inspired by the civilizations of the Americas before the arrival of Europeans and explores the decadence of power amidst the weight of history and the struggle of individuals swimming against the boundaries of society and their broken past . ” The next book in the series, titled Fever Star, is scheduled to release in April next year.

With The walking dead come to an end after the current season, Kang made her mind known by releasing a statement last year, looking back at the show’s “epic final chapter,” of which only eight episodes have been aired so far. She had this to say:

“I look forward to digging in with our brilliant writers, producers, directors, cast and team to bring this epic final chapter of Robert Kirkman’s story to life for our fans over the next two years. […] The walking dead flagship series has been my creative home for a decade and so it’s bittersweet to bring it to an end, but I can no longer be excited to work with Scott Gimple and AMC to develop a new series for Daryl and Carol. Collaborates with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride was a highlight of my career and I’m glad we can continue to tell together. ”

The change of The walking dead going to be a big one going from zombies to a whole new world and land of different beliefs and new villains coming in peace. However, Kang feels very excited about this as well as AMC Studios. Taking on the project comes with challenges as Roanhoarse writes with great detail and passion, deep characters and story.

Roanhorse has won numerous awards for her previous works, including a Hugo Award in 2017 for a short story entitled “Welcome to your authentic Indian experience, “and a nomination for her previous novel Lightning Track. Roanhorse graduated from Yale University and lived for several years in the Navajo Nation, where she was a clerk at the Navajo High Court before working as a lawyer. In a NPR interview, she discussed her writing and her research process on Black Sun as “lifelong”, that she “has been reading about Pre-Columbia cultures for decades. But for this book I really dug into everything, from Polynesian sailing methods to what we know about the Maritime Maya to the habits of corvidians. I also have many read. about crows. ”

Currently, AMC has not given us a release date for this new series as it is still in its early stages. However, you can watch more of the last season of The walking dead when it returns on February 20, 2022 AMC and AMC +.
