Jack Reacher trailer elicits mixed reactions from lead actor Alan Ritchson

One of the most anticipated upcoming streaming shows is Prime Videos Reacher. After two major films with Tom Cruise, fans of the Lee Child book series were looking forward to a more accurate portrayal of the character. Amazon recently released a trailer for the new version of Reacher, which shows the new screen version of the character. Look at the Reacher trailer below.

Now that a more book-accurate depiction of the character for the upcoming program has been revealed, the reactions have been mixed. There are many who feel that Alan Ritchson, who was cast to take on the role of Jack Reacher for the Amazon program, really embodies the sense of character. Meanwhile, there is such a vocal opposition that feels like he has been thrown into the roll wrong. There are some who would have preferred Tom Cruise returns for more time than Reacher.

Although Cruise is a good actor, there is no denying that he is small compared to Jack Reacher, who is described by the author as 6 feet 5 inches and 250 pounds of muscle. With Ritchson, the new series has a star who is much closer in character and size to the character. So much, at least, everyone can agree.

The problem some seem to have is that they feel Ritchson’s acting in the trailer lacks personality. Some internet commentators feel that, despite his lack of size, Cruise’s portrayal of Reacher will eventually be better because of his on-screen presence, something they feel Ritchson is missing.

But the one opinion that perhaps matters more than anyone else’s belongs to Jack Reacher’s creator. Author Lee Child serves as an executive producer on the Amazon Studios program, and consequently had a direct hand in choosing Alan Ritchson to portray Reacher. In a recent article by Entertainment Weekly, Child gave his thoughts on the cast of Ritchson.

“This guy walked on screen and had this silence and a mixture of threat and benevolence that is always confusing about Reacher,” Child says of his 6’3 “star.” If he’s going to be your friend, you’re very happy. If he is not going to be your friend, you are very unhappy. It all had to be conveyed only by attitude, mood, appearance – and Ritchson had it right away. ”

In turn, Ritchson took the audition seriously. In the eight months before filming his audition for the character of Jack Reacher, he had read all 24 Reacher books available at the time, and carefully studied Reacher’s characteristics. In the same Entertainment Weekly article, Ritchson talked about the role he wants. “I’ve become comfortable taking on big roles. Reacher has incredibly big shoes to fill; he’s a bit of a superhero. [But] I was so invested in who Reacher was at that time, there were not many questions for me. ”

Reacher is based on the Lee Child book “The Killing Floor.” The series stars Ritchson, Malcolm Goodwin, Willa Fitzgerald, Kristin Kreuk and Bruce McGill. Reacher premiered on February 4, 2022 on Prime Video.
