After making allegations for three consecutive years to the human resource staff of The Goldbergs, Jeff Garlin is officially out. While Garlin stands by his exit as a voluntary choice, Sony and ABC report that Jeff Garlin is let go amid inappropriate behavioral allegations on the set. The ABC program will use previously shot footage of Garlin to complete his ninth season, Variety reports.
In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Garlin claims that he was not fired. When Garlin was asked to describe the scenario that led to the allegations, Garlin replied: “Well, to be honest with you, there is no story. And I say this in all sincerity, because that’s the thing that confused me. Even with Sony — we have a difference of opinion, Sony and I. Well. My opinion is, I have my process on how funny I am, in terms of the scene and what I need to do. They feel that for a quote it makes “unsafe” workspace. Now, mind you, my stupidity about making an unsafe workspace — I do not understand what it’s like. And I’m on a comedy show. I am always a friendly and considerate person. I’m making mistakes, for sure. But my comedy is about relieving people’s pain. Why would I ever want to cause pain in someone for a laugh? It’s bullying. It is just unnecessary. ”
In an attempt to get the facts of the story, the reporter asks the details of HR’s concern? “I’m not going to talk about it because I do not want to, but basically a lot of things I do not agree with — it’s simple. If I said something simple and offensive, and I work for an insurance company, I think it’s a different situation. If I, as the star of the program, demanded a gun track and on set, and I fired guns every day and I was a little loose – for me it’s an unsafe work atmosphere. If I threatened people, it’s an unsafe work atmosphere. None of that ever goes on with me. That’s not who I am. I’m sorry to tell you that there really is no big story. Unless you want to tell a story about political correctness. ”
The comedian addressed previous complaints in his 2019 Netflix uprising special, Jeff Garlin: Our man in Chicago, jokingly, “Many days on The GoldbergsI’m sitting in a Barcalounger in tighty whities all day, and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Who did I ask to get this job?’ ”He adds that when he gets up from his easy chair, his standing joke is . “‘Oh, my vagina. Oh, sore vagina. Oh, my vagina kills me.'”
He explains how he is addressed by HR, and goes on to say, “I’m called in, and they say, ‘Look, you can not do this.’ And I say, ‘Oh yes, I can.’ They say, “You might be fired.” I say, ‘I would like to be fired and get it in the newspapers: Cover of TMZ:’ Jeff Garlin fired because his vagina hurts. ‘”Finally:” I’m on a comedy. I’m a comedian “Let’s come over. I do not have a vagina. I think everyone knows that.”
