We’re used to being fed very small pieces of plot information about upcoming superhero movies from Marvel and DC, so it’s not surprising that a newly released synopsis for Jason Momoa‘s return as Aquaman revealed just enough to intrigue fans about what’s coming in Aquaman and the lost kingdom when it arrives next year around this time. With the sequel that completed filming earlier this month, fans hope it’s not too long before we see more previews of Momoa, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and more in action.

After the unexpected disappointment of the original release of Justice League the previous year, which gave Jason Momoa’s water hero his debut, Aquaman arrived in 2018 to become the monster hit that no one really predicted, surpassing The Dark Knight as the highest-grossing DC movie with a global gross of more than $ 1.1 billion. With positive reviews all around, it was not at all time before director James Wan started working on the sequel. While the COVID pandemic did not help production, fans had a first preview of the movie at DC FanDome and the latest summary update will only make them eager to see more.

“When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an awkward alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.”

While this in itself is not the most detailed description to continue, we already know that Orm and Black Manta are both back for the sequel, and with Mateen II already teasing an extensive role for his villain, so the question is really which of his opponents will Aquaman turn to this time to save the world? Considering the ancient power probably associated with the “lost kingdom” of the title, it would suggest that the alliance between Ocean Master and Aquaman would be, leaving Black Manta as the main villain of the story.

Mostly thanks to the Covid pandemic, DC has released only two movies this year, one of which is the Synder Cut of Justice League, it is fair to say that Warner Bros. take it all out for 2022 after once again staying behind Marvel in both quantity and quality of their superhero output. With The Batman leading in 2022 with a March release, DC League of Super-Pets, Black Adam and The flash flesh from the year before it is rounded off by Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s arrival on December 16th. In addition, we also have James Gunn’s Vredemaker series making its debut in January, so all in all, 2022 is going to be the year that DC hopes they can get back on track, because so far it looks like it’s going to be an action-packed year for both sides of the comic book. With Spider-Man: No Way Home after laying down a glove for DC’s greatest heroes, Fans of comic book superhero movies have never had it so good.
