Ajith Kumar in the highly anticipated Tamil language Indian Blockbuster Valimai

The highly anticipated Tamil Indian box office hit, Valimai, finally released his first trailer on Thursday, Dec. 30th. The film stars Ajith Kumar and Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi in her second Tamil film starring Kartikeya Gummakonda in the lead role as the main antagonist.

The film follows Kumar and Qureshi on the trail of a dangerous motorcycle gang. As one can see from the trailer, the movie is action packed and involves massive stunts and heavy dialogue that will surely keep an audience on the edge of their seats.

Ajith Kumar is widely known across India and has made quite a name in South Indian films. Referred to by his fans as “Thala” (leader), Kumar is one of the highest paid actors of the Tamil film industry and has been included three times in the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list. Valimai will also reunite Kumar with director and screenwriter H. Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor, with whom he worked on the 2019 movie Nerkonda Paarvai which was an initial success at the box office. The film is produced by Kapoor via its Bayview Projects, and also by Zee Studios.

“Every commercial director’s dream is to work with big names, but as a star, Ajith was so humble that it surprised me. He even served me coffee! I’m going to do my third film with him now, but the excitement of seeing him has not faded so far, ” says director H. Vinoth about working with Kumar. “He knows when I am off and when things do not go as planned. Whenever that happens, he will come to my side, pat me on the back and say, ‘Everything will fall into place.’

The film was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and has since released two songs from the movie’s soundtrack: “Naanga Vera Mari”, which garnered more than 39 million views on YouTube, and “Mother Song”, which was released earlier this month, with eight million views so far.

Valimai initially looked to numerous Bollywood stars such as Jahnvi Kapoor, Parneeti Chopra and Ajay Devgan for the lead roles, but all turned down due to scheduling conflicts.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film’s production was changed and the planned 2020 release had to be postponed. Fans, who were announced in late 2019, have since been expecting the release of the film and asked on social media for a look at the film. Since the release of the trailer today, Fans can be seen outside celebrating the movie’s release.

Valimai will now be released on January 14, 2022 during the Pongal holiday in theaters.
