Last year ended horribly with the death of beloved television icon Betty White. The news came when White was preparing to celebrate her 100th birthday this month, and because so many of us really felt like she would be here forever, the news came as a big shock to many. BossLogic feels emotional about her passing and has created some new digital artwork that White introduces in the afterlife, again along with the cast of The Golden Girls.
While she was the oldest, White was also the last surviving member of the cast. With White as Rose Nylund, the series also featured Bea Arthur as Dorothy Zbornak, Rue McClanahan as Blanche Devereaux, and Estelle Getty as Sophia Petrillo. Getty died in 2008 at the age of 84, Arthur died in 2009 at the age of 86, and McClanahan died in 2010 at the age of 76.
Created by Susan Harris, The Golden Girls broadcast on NBC from 1985-1992. The series followed four adult women who shared a friendship and home in Miami, Florida, while navigating life and love in their golden years. The award-winning sitcom was hugely popular at the time and earned all four of its main star Emmy awards, one of very few comedy programs to achieve this feat. It is now widely regarded as one of the very best sitcoms of all time.
“I can not believe I am the only one left, because I [was] the oldest! “White previously told OK Magazine.
“We showed up for the reading [and] it was like hitting a tennis ball over the net, “she also said about starting the series with the ensemble.” It was so exciting to be with four people with that chemistry – I will never read that first do not forget. It was like we worked together forever! I still get chicken when I think about it. ”
When Rue McClanahan passed in 2010, White said, “We worshiped each other. It hurts more than I first thought it would, if even possible. She was everything, as far as a friend was concerned. ”
“You can not work so closely together and not become a family,” White said. “I hear these horror stories about series where they do not speak from camera. How do you make comedy when you are not talking to each other? ”
After The Golden Girls ended his run, Betty White joined Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty in the spinoff series The Golden Palace. As Bea Arthur moved on, she returned for a special appearance in the program’s single season. With the new environment and one big member of the cast mostly gone, the show did not stand out as well as its predecessor at the time, but it became more appreciated by Golden Girls fans in more recent years.
The Golden Girls stream on Hulu if you want to watch some classic episodes in honor of Betty White. If you want to check out The Golden Palace, it was announced shortly before White’s departure by Hulu that the series would also be available to watch on the streamer on January 10.
Zoe Saldana is back in the makeup chair for her Guardians of the Galaxy return, and she shared a new image in her “Faces of 2021” slideshow.
