Ryan Reynolds raises $ 850 million for charity with 2021 Ugly Sweater campaign

What started as a stroll with friends, Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, has once again become a major charity push for Ryan Reynolds.

Ryan Reynolds may be on a break from acting, but he’s not on a break from being Ryan Reynolds, and it was business as usual on the actor’s social media accounts where he reminded everyone that he was not really going anywhere. After a busy 2021, Reynolds rounded out the year by raising $ 850 million for the SickKids Foundation in support of Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children with its ugly jersey campaign. Origins as a joke played by friends on Reynolds Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal in 2018, in which Reynolds was led to believe he was attending a function that required him to wear an ugly sweater while of course he did not.

Reynolds, not one to let go of something like that, however, turned his hilarious humiliation into a heroic moment by using the jersey to raise serious amounts of money for charity. By turning his ugly jersey into a symbol of his Help Ryan Help SickKids campaign, Reynolds had the last laugh as usual and today shared with his followers the news of the phenomenal amount raised in 2021 for the cause. In his post, Reynolds wrote:

“Thank you for helping this ugly jersey raise more than $ 850,000 for the Sick Kids Foundation. Turning something ugly into something beautiful is what @sickkidsvs does every day. Many thanks, @samsungcanada, @mapleleafs and everyone who gave. ”

The post was held by nearly 1.3 million people, including celebrities like Jason Momoa and Reynolds’s Spiritual co-star Octavia Spencer, and the performance itself is just another example of what both celebrity status and the internet can achieve when used properly.

Since appearing together in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman spent more than a decade slandering and slandering each other on social media, playing a game of one-upmanship that kept their followers entertained and also well used in ways like this ugly jersey charity fundraiser.

Reynolds surprised everyone when he announced he was taking a sabbatical from acting after filming his Christmas movie Spiritual, but you will hardly notice thanks to the actor’s constant social media presence and the long list of movies in which he currently appears. Reynolds will be appearing soon in The Adam project, which was recently given a March 11 release date by Netflix, and Spiritual comes out just in time for Christmas. However, Reynolds clearly does not intend to take a too long breather as he considers his growing number of projects en route to his return.

With Deadpool 3, which is in the early stages of pre-production, Reynolds is expected to return with Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot for two more Red Notice movies that will turn back-to-back. As one of the busiest and most bankable stars in Hollywood at the moment, there is very little that can stop Reynolds’ growing popularity, and for his fans, this is just how it should be.
