Duke Nukem Fan Art Introduces John Cena as the Wisecracking Action Hero

The live action Duke Nukem movie may have exploded in development hell, but many fans are still hoping to see it eventually come to fruition. Due to his physical resemblance to the video game character, John Cena has long been seen by many as a perfect choice for the role. In 2018, it was reported that Cena would indeed play Duke in a movie for Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes, but with no notable updates on his progress since then.

Not everyone has forgotten about this project. One fan has pleaded with digital artist BossLogic to turn some of Cena’s artwork into a Duke Nukem movie to further prove how excellent he would look as that character. BossLogic seems to agree as the artist is obligated to post a mockup poster of the unmade Duke Nukem movie. He definitely looks the part as you can see by looking at the faux poster.

Duke Nukem has been appearing in video games for three decades. His most popular adventure came in the 1996 computer game Duke Nukem 3D, one of the most memorable games of his era. Many sequels would arrive on multiple consoles in the coming years, with a highlight Duke Nukem 3D: World Tour in 2016. Given his name and that he’s a walking cliché of an action movie hero, it looks like Duke Nukem will lend himself well to a fun popcorn movie.

“I think it’s the direct attachment and I’m very honored to be attached to it, but it’s a very fragile franchise,” Cena said Screen rant in 2018, with reference to its reported cast. “It was one that was very timeline specific, it’s 1990s to the point. So, again, it reflects on story. The story has to come in dead balls, man. As it has to come in, tell it correctly, tell it in a tasteful sense. for this generation, that you walk on eggshells … you can not be Duke Nukem, but you can not make the wrong move … so I am … what a blessing to be attached to it, so ‘ a name, and I just hope development does the franchise justice. “
