Joe Exotic was recently the recipient of good and bad news. Because the trial court miscalculated two of the charges against Exotic when he was sentenced to 22 years in prison, in connection with an alleged murder-for-rent conspiracy against Carole Baskin along with charges of animal cruelty, a judge ruled that the sentence was erroneous. . It was possible that the sentence could be reduced from 22 years to 17, but the federal appellate court rather reduced the sentence by just one year with a new sentence of 21 years.
“I think it’s fair to say that there was some disappointment in our conversation with Joe, this program is not over yet,” said Exotic’s attorney, J. Blake Patton, TMZ. “Joe is hopeful that he will find justice in post-sentence relief … Joe is looking forward to the next steps.”
In November, it was reported that Exotic was struggling with an “aggressive cancer”. He was reportedly transferred from FMC Fort Worth, Texas to FMC Butner in North Carolina to be treated with “extensive medical services.” The “Tiger King” has requested a release from prison to fight his illness further, but so far a judge has not granted it.
While in prison, Exotic also appealed to the presidents of the United States to pardon him. He publicly pleaded with former President Donald Trump that this should happen and was disappointed to hear that his name was not included on Trump’s list of pardons on the way out the door. Exotic’s team expressed their disappointment in Trump while suggesting that Joe Biden could still grant him the pardon, but that is also not something that came about.
The Tiger King Saga continues on the small screen
Tiger King: Murder, Madness and Mayhem was a huge hit for Netflix when it appeared on the streaming service in 2020. Netflix followed it up with the follow-up document series Tiger King 2, which dropped in 2021, picked up Exotic in jail and kept viewers abreast of what has happened since. The continued fame also kept Exotic in the public eye despite his long prison sentence.
Peacock will next take a lens to the drama with a writing series based on the feud between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin.
