The Battle for Uber trailer features Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the Cheeky CEO

“I’m not a monster,” claims Uber CEO Travis Kalanick in the new Showtime trailer for Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber, the first season of a new anthology series on the business deals that changed the world and our lives forever. This first season stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Uber’s CEO. Here is our first look at this series with the official trailer below.

The trailer shows Kalanick, a visionary with a lot of ambition who is willing to do whatever it takes to build his company. Doing whatever it takes means getting involved with some of the more prominent financial market players, such as The Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington (Uma Thurman.) Huffington would also become the first woman to join the famous app’s board. The trailer gives us an inside look at how Kalanick went about getting funding and how he found Bill Gurley, who is the primary key to to get the financing he needed to start Uber.

Is the new series fact or fiction?

The new series will also take a deep look at the battle that nearly destroyed the company. As the trailer shows, Uber’s fast-growing success also inflated Kalanick’s ego to a point where he did not care about how he behaved and how others around him felt. We also see that Kalanick felt he was in danger of being kicked out of the company he helped create, which only exacerbated his behavior. At one point we hear him say, “We are disruptors. We are kings, gods.” But when things start to fall apart and a colleague tells him, “I’m going to join the company,” he shouts, “I AM the company.”

In another scene, he threatens: “Disloyalty must be punished.” This series is not afraid to go into the dark side of these companies and open the doors to give us a more detailed look at how things happened. Uber is currently the most valuable US start-up at $ 68 billion. In June 2017, Kalanick was asked to resign from his position as CEO and was replaced by Dara Khosrowshahi, former CEO of Expedia, who remains CEO today.

Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber is based on the book of the same name by the author Mike Isaac which was released in 2019. Showtime is already looking for new seasons focused on other Silicon Valley stories. The battle for Uber Hank Azaria also stars Tim Cook, Apple CEO, Elisabeth Shue, Jon Bass, Bridget Gao Hollitt, Virginia Kull, Amanda Brooks, Annie Chang, Erinn Ruth, Mishka Thébaud, Babak Tafti, Darren Pettie, Noah Weisberg, Mark Gessner, Kerry Bishé, en Joel Kelley Dauten.
