Peter Cullen channels Optimus Prime to tell a new Transformer story on Calm App


Peter Cullen provided a narrative for a new Transformers Sleep Story on the Calm app, allowing you to fall asleep to the voice of Optimus Prime

Now the legendary 80-year-old joined forces with the meditation app Calm to tell a brand new Sleep Story called History of the Transformerswhich explains how the intergalactic conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons began, and is told, via Cullen, in the soothing yet powerful voice of Optimus Prime.

Cullen has provided the instantly recognizable voice of Optimus Prime since the 1984 comic book series and subsequent animated film in 1986. More than two decades later, Cullen has re-emphasized the role for Michael Bay’s live action movie series and has returned so far for all the sequels, and the spin-off movie Bumblebee. He will appear next in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts when it’s released next year as a direct sequel to the smash hit Bumblebee, and a forerunner of the original Michael Bay franchise, adapting the Beast Wars story on the big screen.

In addition to returning for the live-action action movies, Cullen has also starred in numerous other animated versions of the popular franchise. He was joined by fellow veteran Frank Welker, whose wonderful list of credits ranges from providing sounds for who saysby Gremlins and Slimmer in The Real Ghostbustersto be the voice of Megatron in Transformers: The Moviewhen the couple reunited to play their respective roles in the 2012 animation Transformers Prime. Cullen was back for the 2015 follow-up series, Transformers: Robots in Disguise.

In addition to his film and TV appearances, the actor has also appeared in video games such as Transformers: War for Cybertron, Fall of Cybertron and Transformers Destruction. Transformers most recently evicted first wars between 2016-2018 and the Netflix series Cybertron War from 2019 to 2021, but these were two of the first Transformers projects to not Cullen, which was replaced by Honest Trailers‘Jon Bailey for first wars and Jake Foushee for War for Cybertron.


However, as already pointed out, Cullen is the voice of Optimus Prime in terms of any future movies, and that includes Rise of the animals, which completed production in October last year, but its release was recently pushed back as part of Paramount’s recent schedule shakeup. The film will also play Ron Perlman who will provide his instantly recognizable tone to Optimus Primal in the movie, which will hit theaters on December 22, 2023.
