The Magic Mike franchise began back in 2012 when Magic Mike was released, it took the world by storm and became an entire empire of stage shows and sequels and even an on-stage musical. The initial film grossed over $ 167 million against a $ 7 million budget. The screenplay was partially inspired by Channing Tatum’s past as a stripper in Florida at a young age. The film follows Adam who is 19 years old (Alex Pettyfer) as he begins at a male strip club and is guided by Mike Lange (Channing Tatum).
After the huge success of the initial film, a sequel was released in 2015 which was also wildly popular. The story followed a retired Mike Lange (Channing Tatum) who is convinced to re-join the stripping world, once again appealing to the masses with the antics of the strip club in Tampa. The success has continued and a third installment in the series, Magic Mike’s Last Dance has been announced—Here’s everything we know so far.
Plot: What Will It Be About?
Not much is currently known about the specifics of the plot of the new addition to the franchise, although the title suggests it could possibly be the final installment, so we may see some character’s stories wrapped up, setting up for a satisfying end to their storylines . Tatum has stated that dancing will be a huge focus for this film, with more focus on fun than an intricate storyline. It’s also been speculated that Mike Lange will possibly be in a relationship in this addition, so it will be interesting to see how this develops his character.
It’s also possible that some of Tatum’s own life could inspire the film, as he has previously served as a producer due to the films being loosely based on his own life and experience as a young stripper. There could be more aspects of his own life which will come into play in the new film, and we are excited to see how it could develop.
Cast: Who Will Be in It?
It’s already been confirmed that Channing Tatum will return as the titular character, similarly to the entries in the franchise previously. Tatum initially shared an Instagram post back in November which confirmed that his character would be back with the franchise. Tatum expressed his excitement for reprising his role, and assured fans that they would not be disappointed. The script that Tatum shared stated that the film would be written by Reid Carolin and directed by Steven Soderbergh.
As of right now, the rest of the cast members are currently unknown, however faces which could possibly return from previous franchises include Matthew McConaughay (Dallas), Joe Manganiello (Richie) and Matt Bomer (Ken). Jada Pinkett Smith, Donald Glover, Andie MacDowell and Elizabeth Banks also starred in the second film so we are hoping for appearances for some of these characters. There have also been talks of Thandiwe Newton joining the castwhich could provide new direction for the film.
Anticipated Release Date
Since news of the script has only just been released, release dates have not been specified and the film is in pre-production. The release date will likely not be confirmed for quite some time. One difference from the previous entries in the last is that this addition will not have a cinematic release and will be the first entry to be released through streaming platforms. In the US, the film will be streamed through HBO Max, although worldwide releases have not been clarified yet. This will make an interesting change for the franchise which we look forward to.
Ms. Marvel is currently undergoing reshoots and new images from the set have given fans a new look at the title heroine.
