Kraven the Hunter Will Join the Likes of Morbius & Venom in Sony’s Spider-Man Shared Universe

Sony Pictures Releasing

Specific plot details for Kraven the Hunter are largely unknown at present, but it is expected that the movie will follow in the footsteps of fellow Sony Marvel movies Venom and Morbius, telling the origin story of the beloved supervillain. Therefore, Kraven the Hunter is expected to follow the exploits of the Marvel character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for “The Amazing Spider-Man # 15” back in 1964.

Born Sergei Kravinoff, Kraven was raised in Russia during the time of the Russian Revolution. After finding employment in Kenya, Kraven began his career using the typical tools of the hunter but over time developed a preference to take down large animals with his bare hands. After meeting a Voodoo witch doctor named Calypso, Kravinoff is given an herbal potion that enhances his strength, speed, and senses, as well as extending his life. Eventually, Kraven tires of big game hunting and is drawn to Spider-Man, slowly becoming obsessed with being the man to catch the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler.

Next up in the Sony Shared Universe though is Morbius. Directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius alongside Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.

Morbius will transform Jared Leto into one of the most compelling and conflicted characters in the Sony Spider-Man Universe. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?

Morbius is scheduled to be released in the United States on April 1, 2022.
