Harry Potter alum Daniel Radcliffe is not exactly known for playing the bad guy, and perhaps that’s a part of why he had such a blast with his role as the villain in The Lost City. Set to debut in theaters this weekend, The Lost City is a new big budget action-adventure film from Adam and Aaron Nee. It features Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum in the lead roles as the protagonists with Radcliffe serving as the antagonist.
In the movie, romance novelist Loretta Sage (Bullock) goes on tour with Alan Caprison (Tatum), the cover model for her novel The Lost City of D, to promote her new book. She gets kidnapped by eccentric billionaire Abigail Fairfax (Radcliffe), who believes that the fictional city written about in Sage’s book is real. Abigail demands Loretta take him to the mythical city while Alan embarks on a mission to rescue her.
Radcliffe recently opened up about the role in an interview with the New York Times. The actor admitted he had great fun on the set and really enjoyed his time in the role. However, he notes that the other cast members may not have had as much fun as him, as Radcliffe’s role was not quite as physically “grueling” as what the others had to go through. As Radcliffe says:
“It was a huge amount of fun. It’s weird because they worked really, really hard on this film and did quite a grueling physical shoot, and I was having a very chill time and being like, ‘Hey guys, you all seem really tired . “
Daniel Radcliffe Also Had Fun Filming Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
There’s no doubt that Daniel Radcliffe also had a great time with the “Weird Al” Yankovic biopic that he recently wrapped filming. In development for The Roku Channel and featuring Radcliffe as Yankovic, the comedy biopic is dubbed Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Radcliffe appeared on The Tonight Show on Friday where he spoke about that role, revealing that he’d had accordion lessons with Yankovic. He also explained how performing Tom Lehrer’s “The Elements” parody song on Graham Norton more than a decade ago led to his casting.
“When I talked to Al for the first time, I was like, ‘I’m immensely flattered by the idea that you would pick me to play you, but like, why me? I’m mystified but excited, ‘”Radcliffe said.” Apparently, like 13, 14 years ago, I sang a version of a Tom Lehrer song on The Graham Norton Show in the UK. I sang a version of ‘The Elements’ next to Colin Farrell and a very bemused Rihanna, who I think was like, who is this kid, and why is he singing all of ‘The Elements?’ And I guess Al saw that and was like, ‘This guy maybe gets it.’ And so he picked me. So I’m very, very lucky, and now I’ve gotten to have accordion lessons with Al. So I can go to my grave. ”
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story does not have a release date but is expected to arrive on The Roku Channel for streaming later this year. The Lost Citymeanwhile, will be released on March 25, 2022.
