Halo Premiere Breaks Paramount + Viewership Record in One Day

Halo may be new, but it has already proven to be a ratings success. According to Deadline, the Paramount + tv show’s first episode broke the record for being the streaming service’s most-watched premiere worldwide in 24 hours. The achievement was higher than the previous record set by the Yellowstone spin-off 1883.

Like many streaming series, no exact numbers were given for Halo. Given that 1883 drew 4.9 million audience members for its pilot, the numbers for the video game adaptation will be larger. Official details will be announced when Nielsen’s streaming numbers for the week are unveiled. So far, Paramount + has yet to be a part of the Nielsen Top 10. Depending on Halo’s success, the show could be the first show for the streaming service to crack the list.

Originally, the Halo tv show was supposed to air on the Xbox, the same console the video game series is a part of. Next, it was going to broadcast on Showtime. Paramount + has been looking for popular shows to include in their platform. Since Showtime on Paramount + are owned by the same company, it was easy to instead make Halo an exclusive for the latter.

Tanya Giles Chief Programming Officer for Paramount +, expressed her excitement for the show when she said, “Bringing Halo to life as a streaming series has been one of the most rewarding efforts for Paramount + to date, and we could not be more thrilled at the massive fan response to the series’ debut. Along with our phenomenal partners at Showtime, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, we can not wait for fans to experience more of this incredible universe. ” 343 Industries has been the developer of the games since the early 2010s.

Halo Has Already Been Renewed For Season 2

The show, which has been approved for a second season, is set in the same universe as the popular video game franchise, which first came out in 2001 with Halo: Combat Evolved. Several of the series’ games are regarded as some of the best first-person shooters of all time. The tv show revolves around a 26th-century conflict between humans and an alien organization known as the Covenant. The latter group is similar to a cult and is composed of several alien species.

The main cast includes, Pablo Schreiber as the Master Chief, Spartan-117; Natascha McElhone as Dr. Halsey, the brilliant, conflicted and inscrutable creator of the Spartan super soldiers; and Jen Taylor as Cortana, an advanced AI who is also Master Chief’s companion. Master-Chief is a super-soldier with enhanced abilities who is arguably the mascot for the Xbox series of video game consoles. He is one of the few video game characters to be well known outside the medium. The tv show will provide a new portrayal of Master Chief.

Showtime produced Halo, as well as 343 Industries and Amblin Television. Season one is executive produced by Steven Kane, along with Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television in partnership with 343 Industries, Otto Bathurst and Toby Leslie for One Big Picture, and Kyle Killen and Scott Pennington for Chapter Eleven. Kiki Wolfkill, Frank O’Connor and Bonnie Ross serve as executive producers for 343 Industries. The series is internationally distributed by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group.
