Henry Cavill as Geralt in The Witcher.

We still have a little while to wait to see Henry Cavill back as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. Today, Netflix has given a sneak peek of the actor back in character, along with Freya Allen and Anya Chalotra as Ciri and Yennefer, respectively, sitting on set, ready to get back in front of the camera. The image takes in a sizeable snow-covered landscape that sets the scene for another epic season, which is emphasized by the plot released by the official Witcher Twitter account for where Geralt’s adventures will take him next.

The official plot reads:

“As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever. ”

The season three synopsis does not give away any exact details about the plot, but it does indicate that Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer will still be together when the new episodes begin, but how that transpires over the season is something that we will have to wait to discover. Netflix will likely share plenty more teases before the new season premieres, including set images, interviews, and more, across their social media platforms.

The Witcher Continues to Be One of Netflix’s Biggest Properties

Henry Cavill in The Witcher.

Along with Stranger Things, The Witcher is one of the biggest original series that Netflix has and that is why they are currently developing a number of spin-offs that sit alongside the flagship show and expand on the world of The Witcher. So far we have already seen the animated film Nightmare of the Wolfand prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin has been in post-production since November and is expected to premiere later this year.

Last fall Netflix made a whole bunch of announcements about the future of The Witcher franchise, and as well as confirming the third season of the main show, they also announced a second animated feature film as well as a “family oriented” animated series – although they are yet to reveal exactly how that will work considering the mature content of the rest of The Witcher‘s world.

There is a lot of expectation on The Witcher season three following the success of the previous releases and the good performance of Nightmare of the Wolf. The first season of the show was reportedly the most in-demand series across all platforms around the world at the time. Between the first two seasons, over 1 billion hours were watched in the first 28 days on release, and the series was only overtaken by Bridgerton and Squid Gamebut that could all change again when the third season arrives, hopefully, by the end of the year.
