Jonathan Banks to Co-Star with Noomi Rapace in Apple Series Constellation


Jonathan Banks is preparing to say goodbye to Better Call Saul just ahead of the sixth and final season premiere, but fans of his will be happy to know the actor has already taken on his next starring role. The veteran actor, who has been playing fan favorite fixer Mike Ehrmantraut since debuting on Breaking Bad in 2009, has just been cast to co-star with Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Lamb, You Won’t Be Alone) in Constellationa new series in the works at Apple TV.

Per Variety, Constellation the series follows Rapace as Jo, a woman who “returns to Earth after a disaster in space only to discover that key pieces of her life seem to be missing.” It is described as a space adventure series that explores “the dark edges of human psychology, and one woman’s desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and for her to recover all that she has lost.”

Details on Banks’ role aren’t yet clear. Apple is confident in the series, however, giving it an eight-episode order. Peter Harness is writing with Michelle MacLaren on board to direct the first tewo episodes; MacLaren and Banks have previously worked together on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Harness and MacLaren are also executive producing, the former for Haunted Barn Ltd. and the latter for MacLaren Entertainment alongside Rebecca Hobbs and co-executive producer Jahan Lopes. Also exec producing are David Tanner, Tracey Scoffield, Caroline Benjo, Simon Arnal, Carole Scotta, and Justin Thomson. Turbine Studios and Haut et Court TV are producing.

Better Call Saul’s Final Season Is Days Away

This marks the first starring role for Jonathan Banks after his work in the Breaking Bad franchise. Banks came into the franchise by complete accident, as his role was created by the writers on the fly when Bob Odenkirk was unavailable to appear for a scripted scene as Saul Goodman, creating an immediate need for a new character. He quickly became a fan favorite and reprised the role for Better Call Saul starting with its first season. Banks is also known for his role in the classic series Wiseguy as well as movies like Airplane!, 48 Hrs., and Beverly Hills Cop.

Noomi Rapace, meanwhile, can be recognized for her role in the Swedish movie trilogy The Girl with the Dragon Tattooappearing in that film along with its sequels The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. The actress has also appeared in films like Prometheus, What Happened to Monday, Lamband You Won’t Be Alone. She more recently appeared in the Swedish action-thriller Black Crab and will star in the upcoming British thriller The Price alongside Michael Shannon and Matthias Schweigh√∂fer.

Constellation does not have an official release date set at this time. Until then, fans can say their goodbyes to Banks’ Mike Ehrmantraut in his final episodes on Better Call Saul. The sixth and final season of Better Call Saul is now just days away, scheduled to premiere the first two episodes on April 18 on AMC.
