Doctor Strange star Chiwetel Ejiofor has discussed his return as Karl Mordo in the upcoming MCU sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Speaking with Entertainment TonightEjiofor reveals some fascinating insight into how his comeback will factor into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesseven describing himself as “the leader for this film.”
“It’s pretty bonkers, and it’s going to be really exciting. It’s been a real joy to bring that team back together, and Sam [Raimi, director of the sequel] made me sort of the leader for this film, and, you know, I just think his work is so extraordinary and has been for so long. So it was very, very exciting, and I think people are really going to enjoy it. “
The last audiences saw of Chiwetel Ejiofor as former Master of the Mystic Arts, Karl Mordo, he was parting ways with Kamar-Taj, the teachings of The Ancient One, and his mentee Doctor Stephen Strange, vowing instead to hunt down and exterminate all the worlds sorcerers. Of course, with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reaching down deep into the wonders of the multiverse, we do not yet know whether the Mordo shown in the trailers is the original version or a variant.
Either way, Karl Mordo will still have a serious bone to pick with Doctor Strange, warning the Marvel hero that his “desecration of reality will not go unpunished.” Based on the footage of Mordo shown so far, it also appears that the character will be a member of The Illuminati, a think-tank made up of some of the Marvel universe’s most intelligent characters including Professor Xavier and Mr. Fantastic.
While much of the movie remains a closely guarded secret, Ejiofor’s description of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as “bonkers” and “exciting” certainly lines up with what has been released so far. As well as all the dramatic footage shown in the various trailers, recent rumors have claimed that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will contain more surprises than audiences will perhaps know how to process.
