Gal Gadot Wraps Filming on Live-Action Snow White Remake

Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, shared an image from the set revealing that she’s wrapping up her final day of filming.

Gal Gadot has wrapped her work as the Evil Queen on Disney’s upcoming Snow White movie. A live-action reimagining of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfsthe new film will star Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) as the titular Disney princess opposite Gadot as the antagonist. An official release date has not yet been set by Disney but production is nearing its end with one of its lead stars now finished working on the movie.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Gadot posted one of the last photos from her time on the set alongside the Snow White crew. The actress also revealed that this was her last day of filming for the movie. The image has since been circulating on social media with fans looking forward to seeing Gadot’s take on the Evil Queen in the film.

The project remains mostly shrouded in secrecy, and details on the plot have not been divulged. While the new Snow White will obviously take inspiration from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, there could be some big changes with its transition from animation to live-action. Gadot has teased that the film offers a take that is “so different” from the version of Snow White that Disney fans are used to.

“There’s so much that I can not share with you that would actually answer this question,” Gadot told Variety last year when asked why she took on the role. “The take on this story is so different and delightful and full of joy. I’m very, very excited. I wish I could share more!”

Magical Creatures Might Replace the Seven Dwarfs

One big change that could be coming is Snow White dropping the seven dwarfs in favor of seven “magical creatures.” This has been the rumor after Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage criticized Disney for remaking Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with a Latina actress in the lead role while still keeping the dwarf characters, arguing that they reinforced negative stereotypes about little people. It remains unclear exactly what these rumored “magical creatures” might look like and if Dopey and his pals will all be dropped completely.

While there had been some social media criticism about Rachel Zegler’s casting, this was not something that Disney would change. Zegler has personally addressed the casting concerns and admitted that she was surprised when she landed the part. She also sees the casting as a wonderful opportunity to inspire others and has been dedicated to doing the best job she can with Snow White.

“Never in a million years did I imagine that this would be a possibility for me,” Zegler said, per Variety. “You do not normally see Snow Whites that are of Latin descent. Even though Snow White is really a big deal in Spanish-speaking countries. Blanca Nieves is a huge icon whether you’re talking about the Disney cartoon or just different iterations and the Grimm fairy tale and all the stories that come with it. But you do not particularly see people who look like me or are me playing roles like that. “

She added, “When it was announced, it was a huge thing that was trending on Twitter for days, because all of the people were angry. We need to love them in the right direction. At the end of the day, I have a job to do that I’m really excited to do. I get to be a Latina princess. “

Marc Webb directs Snow White using a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. The film does not yet have an official release date.
