Best TV Series Coming to Disney + in May 2022


Streaming services have almost completely taken over traditional TV, but that has not stopped TV shows from being produced. Whether it is a drama like Mayans MC or reality shows like 90 Day Fiancé, TV never fails to entertain. It was originally thought that streaming services would never take off, but thanks to expanding their content and adding new shows that are still on the air, streaming has become the go-to place to watch TV. One streaming service that has added a great deal of content since its inception in 2019 is Disney +.

Disney + is probably one of the most common streaming services for people to have, especially for those with children. While their content was rather limited at first, with most of the content being Disney only, more and more has been added to the service in order to fully satisfy the subscribers. Whether it’s a show from regular television or it’s a Disney + original, there are plenty of shows that have been added to Disney +. These are the best TV series coming to Disney + in May 2022.

Life Below Zero – May 4

This documentary TV series began in 2013 and follows the lives of those who brave the wilds of Alaska while living in a remote corner of this Northern state. Life Below Zero follows the struggles to get basic necessities of life and the importance of resiliency for the residents in order for them to brave the storms and wildlife around them. With neighbors 300 miles apart, these Alaskans live by foraging and hunting in order to survive the winter, enjoying springtime while they can. Disney + will be adding a new season of Life Below Zero on May 4th.

The Quest – May 11

The Quest is a rather unique show. Meant to be a hybrid competition series mixed with fantasy, The Quest drops eight real-life teens into the fictional world of Everrealm, where they must save the kingdom by fulfilling a prophecy. This eight-episode series is set to immerse both the heroes and the audience into Everrealm through the use of setting and mystical creatures. The icing on the cake is the Sorceress who will not let anything stand in her way on her quest for power. The Quest was previously on ABC in 2014, but will now have more interactive elements for the contestants on the show. The Quest is set to be released on Disney + on May 11.

Just Like Me – May 11

Another show coming to Disney + is the Disney Original show Just Like Me. Revolving around a group of YouTubers, Just Like Me is a modern Disney Original that appeals especially to young people who have grown up watching YouTube. The group regularly meets up at a juice bar on a boat where they share ideas and collaborate with the goal of growing their followers and developing their talents. This show ran from 2016 to 2017 and was subject to moderate success. Both season one and two of Just Like Me are set to be released on May 11, 2022.

Something Bit Me! – May 11

Something Bit Me! is a new series that revolves around individual stories of people who have been bitten by wild animals that wound up sending people to the ER. Ranging from bug bites to bear maulings, the show is not afraid to cover every horrifying corner of wildlife under threat. Most of these bites have even resulted in numerous health issues for many of those who were under attack. This National Geographic miniseries has received great reviews from both critics and audiences alike. You can look forward to Something Bit Me! coming to Disney + on May 11, 2022.

The Chicken Squad – May 11

Three young chicken siblings, Little Boo, Coop, Sweetie, and their rescue dog mentor Captain Tully work together to solve problems in their backyard to help their local animal friends. The Chicken Squad is an animated TV show that features the voice acting talents of Yvette Nicole Brown, Ramone Hamilton, and Gabriella Graves. The show has been green-lit for a second season, but it’s unclear when it will arrive. This Disney Junior show premiered in May 2021 and is set to join Disney + May 11, 2022.

The Wizard of Paws – May 11

The Wizard of Paws is a must-watch for any animal lover. This reality TV show follows Virginia-based animal orthotist Derrick Campana, who creates prosthetic limbs for pets and sanctuary animals. The show is the ultimate in happy endings, as Derrick works to make the lives of disabled animals easier through the use of prosthetics. The first season of the show premiered in April 2020 and its success led to a renewal of the series in 2021. While the first season of The Wizard of Paws is already on Disney +, the second season is set to be released on Disney + on May 11, 2022.

Secrets of the Zoo – May 18

Kicking off in 2018, Secrets of the Zoo takes place in Ohio’s Columbus Zoo, Aquarium, and conservation park. The Zoo houses more than 10,000 animals and is the part-time home of Jack Hanna, the Zoo’s director. The show takes the audience inside the walls of the zoo and allows them to experience what visitors are unable to. The show displays the deep connections often seen between the zoo workers and the wildlife they care for. The show is jam-packed with behind-the-scenes moments that no one would see were it not for the presence of the camera. Secrets of the Zoo is set to add its fifth season to Disney + on May 18, 2022.

Shook – May 20

Shook is a Disney Channel original unlike any other. Set up as a scripted single-camera narrative, the show follows 15-year-old Mia who dreams of becoming a professional dancer. Unfortunately, Mia’s dreams are hindered by her responsibilities to her single mom and her young sister Sky. The first season of Shook premiered in 2019, and it has been rumored that the show would not be renewed for another season – but this is merely a rumor. Shook is set to be released on Disney + on May 20, 2022.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – May 27

Probably the most anticipated on this list is the series Obi-Wan Kenobiwhich tells the story of Master Kenobi. Set a decade after the execution of Order 66 and the fall of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi follows the story of the title character and his life on Tatooine as he watches over Luke as he promised he would. The series has both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprising their roles as Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, respectively. This Disney + original series is set to be released on May 27, 2022, with a double episode debut.
