FX’s Justified Revival Adds Boyd Holbrook, Marin Ireland, Aunjanue Ellis & More

Earlier this year, FX announced a follow-up series to its acclaimed crime drama Justified. Timothy Olyphant is set to reprise his role as Deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens in the series titled, Justified: City Primeval. The series begins filming in Chicago this week, and the rest of the cast starring alongside Olyphant has been announced.

The new cast includes Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, Logan), Aunjanue Ellis (King Richard, When They See Us), Vondie Curtis-Hall (Marvel’s Daredevil, The Night House), Adelaide Clemens (The Great Gatsby, Rectify), Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete, The Umbrella Academy), Victor Williams (The King of Queens, Happy Together)Norbert Leo Butz (Bloodline, Fosse / Verdon), and Vivian Olyphant. So far, it appears Timothy Olyphant will be the only cast member from the original series to star in Justified: City Primeval. Although, that could change as more casting announcements are expected soon.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Timothy Olyphant returns once again to deliver his particular brand of justice as the cowboy hat-wearing, gunslinging Kentucky lawman Raylan Givens. But unlike his time in Justified, Givens will be older and hopefully more cautious as he raises his 15-year-old daughter. The synopsis for Justified: City Primeval (via Variety) reads:

“The show picks up with Givens eight years after he left Kentucky behind. He now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a US Marshal and part-time father of a 15-year-old girl (Vivan Olyphant). His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind. A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit. There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell (Holbrook), aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and aims to do so again. Mansell’s lawyer, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder (Ellis), has every intention of representing her client, even as she finds herself caught in between cop and criminal, with her own game afoot as well. “

Justified: City Primeval will feature Adelaide Clemens as Sandy, Clement Mansell’s girlfriend; Vondie Curtis-Hall as Sweety, a local bar owner and musician and known scamster; Marin Ireland as Maureen, a Detroit cop; Norbert Leo Butz as Norbert, a Detroit detective; and Victor Williams as Wendell, also a Detroit detective. Timothy Olyphant’s daughter, Vivian, will play his on-screen daughter as well.

Justified: City Primeval Hails From The Same Team Behind Justified

Justified ended its 6-season run on FX in 2016. With 78 episodes aired, many fans believed the show ended too quickly, but that was mainly because Justified maintained its incredible writing and stellar performances throughout its run. The show remains one of the most underrated crime dramas ever. Justified creator Graham Yost is executive producing the upcoming limited series as well. Michael Dinner and Dave Andron, both of whom were deeply involved with Justified as well, will serve as showrunners on City Primeval.

Olyphant will also executive produce the upcoming series alongside Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly, Taylor Elmore, and Chris Provenzano. Peter Leonard of the Elmore Leonard Estate. Justified: City Primeval is based on Elmore Leonard’s novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. While production is set to begin soon, no release date has been announced yet for the series.
