Bo Burnham Releases Deleted Scenes from Netflix Comedy Special to YouTube


Bo Burnham has cobbled together 63 minutes of unused footage from the comedy special he made during the pandemic, Bo Burnham: Inside.

Comedian Bo Burnham has surprised his fans by releasing more than an hour’s worth of new material. Last year, Burnham released to Netflix his special Bo Burnham: Inside, which he wrote, directed, and edited all by himself while on lockdown during the pandemic. He also released the special’s original music on the album Inside (The Songs) which was also a success, climbing to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s comedy albums chart and No. 7 on the Top 200. Burnham had also garnered Creative Arts Emmy Awards for Inside.

But there was a lot of material that Burnham had recorded for Inside that did not make it into the final cut. Ready to share that footage with the world, Burnham took to Twitter to first simply post “stand by,” teasing that he had a major announcement forthcoming. This was followed by another tweet revealing his intentions to upload 63 minutes worth of deleted scenes from Bo Burnham: Insideessentially making another comedy special.

Burnham’s tweet reads: “a year ago today, i released a special called inside. I’ve spent the last two months editing together material that i shot for the special but did not end up using. It will be on my youtube channel in one hour. i hope you enjoy it. “

The video is now streaming. Outside websites cannot embed the special, dubbed The Inside Outtakesbut you can watch it for free by heading on over to Youtube.

Bo Burnham: Inside Was a Big Hit

Bo Burnham created the Inside special in the guest house of his home, which just so happened to be the house where A Nightmare on Elm Street was filmed. It was very well received with critics giving the special a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Burnham also won Emmy Awards for Directing a Variety Special, Outstanding Music Direction, and Writing for a Variety Special. The song “All Eyes on Me” also earned Burnham a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media.

Burnham’s previous special was 2016’s Make Happy, though he has been doing film work in recent years. His directorial debut Eighth Grade debuted in 2018 to great acclaim. He also appeared in a prominent role in Emerald Fennell’s 2020 thriller Promising Young Woman. Burnham had previously appeared in other films like Hall Pass, The Big Sickand Rough Night. He was at one point set to play Larry Bird in the HBO series Winning Timebut wound up backing out before filming could begin.
